Beavers In The Postseason
Oregon State has advanced to the 2013 postseason and will be hosting the Corvallis Regional. The regional features No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 UC Santa Barbara and No. 4 UT-San Antonio.
Oregon State is making its 14th visit to the postseason since the program’s first season in 1907. The Beavers carry a 40-26 (.606) postseason record into the regional, with the current head coach, Pat Casey, claiming 35 of those victories. Oregon State’s visit is the team’s fifth consecutive, which extends the program’s record stretch. The Beavers are 23-16 in NCAA Regional games (.590), including a 9-0 mark at Goss Stadium. OSU is 18-7 (.720) in NCAA Regional games since the NCAA adopted the current postseason format.
Against The Corvallis Regional Field
Against the teams in the regional, the Beavers have the most history with UC Santa Barbara. OSU is 15-10-1 lifetime against the Gauchos. The teams last met in 2012 when the Beavers won 3-of-4 in Santa Barbara. Oregon State is 4-4 against Texas A&M, defeating the Aggies twice during the 2009 Fort Worth Regional. OSU has only met UTSA once, in 2011 in San Antonio, where the Beavers prevailed, 10-7.
Oregon State has been named the SSS national seed in this season’s tournament. It’s the second time the Beavers have been named a national seed. The 2005 club was the No. 8 seed.
From Last Year
Oregon State has 19 players on the 2013 roster who competed at the 2012 Baton Rouge Regional. The Beavers went 2-2 at the regional, defeating Belmont and Louisiana-Monroe but falling twice to host LSU. Michael Confortobatted .429 (6-for-14) during the regional to lead Oregon State, while Ryan Barnes was 6-for-17 (.353). Ben Wetzler and Tony Bryant earned the club’s two wins.
Corvallis Regional History
Oregon State is hosting an NCAA Regional for the fourth time in school history since the curent postseason format was adopted in 1999. The Beavers are a perfect 9-0 in NCAA Regionals at Goss Stadium, most recently sweeping UALR, Creighton and Georgia in 2011. Only three Corvallis Regional games have seen the Beavers win by two runs or less: 4-3 over Ohio State in 2005, 5-3 against Wright State in 2006 and 6-4 over Georgia in 2011. OSU set a program postseason record for runs scored in a 19-3 win over St. John’s to advance to the 2005 Corvallis Super Regional.
