Strong storm drenches Metro

Strong storm drenches Metro

A strong front moved across the region Thursday morning.  It brought strong winds and heavy rain.  Traffic was slowed on most freeways, because of standing water.

Winds gusted over 30 miles an hour.  Around .25 inch of rain fell.

PGE crews responded to scattered outages.  A power outage also affected Portland International Airport.  Generators provided power to the control tower, the runway lights and security checkpoints.  Ticketing agents had to process tickets and boarding passes by hand which results in delays.  Flight operations continued, so there were no major delays.

12,000 Pacific Power customers in Northeast Portland were without power.  That affected Irvington, Alameda, Faubion, Sabin and Vernon schools.  Students remained in school, because Pacific Power was able to restore the outage by 10:30 a.m.

Several trees fell, because of the winds causing some delays on roads and damage to some houses.
